Steve Hiett

Since the late 1960's Steve Hiett has been capturing the changing world of fashion through his distinctive, eye-catching photography.

Saturated with color, lit by dazzlng flash work, and often off center, Hiett's photographs contain brillantly composed worlds. They tell stories, and the stories change with time. Whether it's 1970s Miami, France in the 1980's, or New York at the end of the 20th century, Hiett creates an of-the-moment impression that feels neither contrived nor self conscious. Of his illustrious career, Hiett has said "I dont think of myself as a 'photographer'. I think of myself as someone who uses the camera to create images that I see in my head."

Throughout Steve's legendary career as a Photographer, he has also worked in graphic design. His most notable project as the Art Director of Arthur Elgort's "Mode Manual".

Steve's clients include: Oscar de la Renta, Robert Cavalli, Guy Laroche, Fit flop, Joop, Agnes B and Lacoste. Editorial clients include Italian, Japanese and Chinese Vogue.

In 2015 Prestel published (to world-wide acclaim) a retrospective of his work spanning five decades, entitled "Beyond Blonde", with a foreword by Phillip Garner. The beautifully reproduced images in this book are further testament to Steve Hiett's enduring imprint on the world of fashion photgraphy.

Brimming with Steve Hiett's riotously colorful photgraphs that evoke the trends and styles of their eras, this retrospective volume features images, most of which have never been published in book form.
